Baby of the Year

louise_to_print_2

This morning on the show I talked about my Glory Days – Baby of the Year 1984.  Clearly I peaked too early.  Here is some of the evidence!

P.S.  Anyone who wants to knit a jigsaw jumper…I can get you the pattern.

Bad Buzz.

tattoos

This Belgian girl claims she asked a tattoo artist to tattoo 3 stars on her face, fell asleep, and woke up with this.

Eep.

The tattoo artist claims this is what she asked for but she claims the Romanian tattoo artist failed to understand her French and English.  One way or the other?  BAD.  BUZZ.

Jack Tweed on GMTV

Jack Tweed was interviewed on GMTV last week and he spoke about dealing with his grief after Jade’s death as well as his time in prison, and what his life is like now.  I found it all quite sad to be honest.  Whatcha reckon?

Mini-Marathon

Hello people!  I can’t believe the mini-marathon is on Monday, and I haven’t done ANYTHING to prepare.  I had such good intentions too…  You may remember that I’m doing it for Rehab, in particular their Heads Up programme.  It’s a really important programme which helps young people sort out what’s going on in their heads.  From stress to eating disorders to depression…there is no doubt that few things are as important as your mental health, so I’m delighted to be supporting this organisation.

I would be so very grateful if you could support me in this by making a donation of whatever you can afford.  You can do that here: http://www.mycharity.ie/event/louise_mcsharry/

Thank you!

Alcohol

This morning I mentioned new research by Alcohol Action Ireland which found that more than 71,000 people in Ireland say they have often felt afraid as a result of parental drinking.  Having had personal experience of this fear I felt it was important to point out that if you are in that situation that a) it’s not forever…your parent may deal with their drinking and come out the other side a different person and also eventually you’ll be an adult and in control of your own sitation,  and b)  there is support for you if you want it.

Al-Anon and Alateen are organisations where you can go and meet with people in similar situations.  You can talk about your feelings, and experiences to people who will understand.  Growing up with a parent with an alcohol problem can be excruciatingly painful, but it’s easier if you have support.  Visit: http://www.al-anon-ireland.org/

Don’t forget you’re not alone.  71,000 is a lot of people.

Heartbreaking.

It hasn’t been a great couple of weeks to be Irish with the revelations of the Ryan Commission report on child abuse within institutions run by the religious orders.  This video from Questions and Answers on Monday really illustrates the wrongdoing, and the pathetic initial reaction by our government.  Well done to this man for his bravery.
